Is there a "right" time to start harness training?

Absolutely agree! Tomo started harness training when she was 3 years old. I wouldn't say she's always a rockstar at it, even now after 1+ years into our training, but I think it's been a very rewarding experience for the both of us! She definitely enjoys her backpack time as well as she gets tired/lazy, haha!

We just found out recently that pretty much all hardware stores in Canada are pet friendly! Not sure if that is the case in the USA as well. I find that food puzzles are a great way to keep stimulated and entertained for my cat Tomo. If you cat is quite active then perhaps a cat wheel might be good for Ember to burn off some energy (I've seen some DIY tutorials for making these yourself for a fair price, but I'd suggest you to look around as there are many different tutorials for different skill and budget levels). If you have a patio or deck of sorts, maybe you could consider setting up a catio for Ember so that there's some outside time without needing to be outside for too long. I have a patio myself and I bought some plastic chicken wire fencing to apply to all the railings (recommend getting the tallest one so cat isn't able to jump over), and it cost me less than $15 CAD to make my patio cat safe!
